Inspire Patient Support Communities Pass 200,000 Mark
Inspire, a company that builds and manages online patient support communities, has exceeded 200,000 registered members worldwide, and has passed three million online posts by members.
PRINCETON, NJ, September 12, 2011 /Medical PR News/ -- After a US Army veteran from Greater Cincinnati, OH was diagnosed in July with lung cancer, she went online to try to find information and support. Joining the Lung Cancer Survivors Support Community on Inspire, she became Inspire's 200,000th registered member worldwide.
"I like this site because I can talk to people who have gone through what I am going through, and it helps take away some of the fears of the unknown," said the woman, whose online screen name is "Ladyfire."
As she prepares for surgery in September at Cincinnati (OH) Veterans Hospital, Ladyfire has been posing questions to fellow online community members and receiving practical advice and support. Inspire CEO Brian Loew said that seeing the instant interaction between Ladyfire and her new online peers demonstrates the power of online support communities.
Reaching the 200,000-member mark came on the heels of another milestone for Inspire, which recently passed three million posts by members. "A hallmark of our communities," Loew said, "is that our communities are active, and our members are engaged."
Loew thanked the nonprofit patient advocacy associations that partner with Inspire on many of the online communities. "Exceeding 200,000 members," he said, "is a testament to our partners who recognize the value of helping connect patients online."
Loew said Inspire's goal is both to partner with more advocacy organizations as well as continue the growth of membership within Inspire communities. "We will be announcing more alliances with patient advocacy organizations, and are excited about growth through 2011 and beyond," Loew said.
Princeton, N.J.-based Inspire accelerates medical research through the creation and operation of safe, moderated online communities, organized by medical condition, for patients and caregivers. Inspire builds and manages these communities in exclusive partnership with more than 75 national patient advocacy and support organizations. Among the organizations are the Alzheimer's Foundation, the National Osteoporosis Foundation, the National Organization for Rare Disorders, the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, the National Psoriasis Foundation, and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
