The Alzheimer's Association, Orange County to Recognize Exceptional Caregivers at The Fifth Annual Visionary Women Luncheon

Special guest Doris Roberts to join an estimated 600 guests to celebrate outstanding caregivers in the field of Alzheimer's disease and related forms of dementia

    IRVINE, CA, September 16, 2011 /Medical PR News/ -- The Alzheimer's Association, Orange County Chapter will hold its fifth annual Visionary Women Luncheon on Friday, September 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa. Joining the celebration is special guest and five-time Emmy Award winner Doris Roberts, best know for her role as Marie Barone on "Everybody Loves Raymond."

The Visionary Women Awards Luncheon honors individuals who serve as models of commitment to compassionate care. Join us to celebrate caregivers in Orange County and support us in offering help and hope to the growing number of people affected by memory loss disorders.

This year, guests will celebrate these outstanding caregiver honorees in the following categories:
• Youth Caregiver - Ricardo Rojo, Buena Park High School
• Administrative Professional - Kelly Sabrina Francia, Guardian Angels Homes, Tustin
• Medical Professional - Dr. Ajay Meka, Amistad Medical Clinics
• Professional Caregiver - Delores Truhar, Seniors Helping Seniors
• Family Caregiver Honorees - Shawna Dakides, Eileen Hutchins and Gina Moran

Title sponsor for the Fifth Annual Visionary Women Awards Luncheon is Argyros Family Foundation. Other generous sponsors include Silverado Senior Living and Vivante Living.

Guests will be invited to shop at the exclusive, luxury boutique created specifically for the occasion by local vendors before and after the luncheon, with a percentage of all purchases to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

The luncheon is chaired by Kirsten Mangers, who also chairs the Visionary Women's Leadership Circle. The Leadership Circle empowers women to raise the level of concern about Alzheimer's disease in our community and to raise funds for quality care and critical research.

Facts about Alzheimer's disease:
• 5.4 million people in America have Alzheimer's disease, and someone develops the disease every 69 seconds.
• Currently, more than 588,000 people in California are affected by memory loss disorders, a number expected to double by 2030, triple by 2050
• Alzheimer's disease is the fourth leading cause of death in Orange County
• In 2010, 14.0 million family members and friends provided 17 billion hours of unpaid care to those with Alzheimer's and other dementias - care valued at $202.6 billion.
• 75,000 people in O.C. have Alzheimer's or related dementia, or are at immediate risk.

Tax-deductible tickets are available to attend the luncheon for $100 per person, and tables start at $1,500. The proceeds of the event will be used to support the essential services and programs that are delivered to local families at no cost.
