Wagdi Attia, MD, Ph.D., Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Mental Health

Dr. Attia was named Top Doctor on four occasions by the "Washingtonian Magazine"

SILVER SPRING, MD, March 27, 2012, Wagdi Attia, Medical Director for BEST, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in mental health.

For Dr. Attia, an innate interest in the human brain—the central organ of the human body—matured into a drive to enter into the field of psychiatry. A trained provider of NeuroStar TMS Therapy, an innovative and non-invasive treatment for depression, Dr. Attia stands out as an ideal candidate for his position as medical director for BEST, a hospital that provides medical and behavioral care and mental illness treatment. He also offers a new, noninvasive treatment called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, which uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression.

Dr. Attia specializes in depression and bipolar disorder treatment, and as a medical director, he observes, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses. He credits his success to his work and the loving people he has encountered throughout his career. He is also an assistant professor at George Washington University, and has had work published in eight papers on arthritis.

Dr. Attia began his education in Egypt, earning an MD in Psychiatry and a Ph.D. in Immunology. Once he came to the United States, he completed a residency at Howard University, a residency in psychiatry at Southwestern University, and a fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital. In addition, he earned certification in psychiatry and neurology, and certification in the treatment of narcotic, heroin detoxification and dependence, and the psychotic spectrum. He has been named a "Top Doctor" on four occasions (in 2002, 2007, 2008 and 2010) by the Washingtonian Magazine, and he remains updated in the medical field through his affiliation with the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association. Looking ahead, Dr. Attia plans to continue treating his patients and teaching.
